4 Signs God Is Telling You to Fully Move On From Someone in Your Past So He Can Bless You with a New Relationship in Your Future

Another variable that will sabotage a season of actively trying to get into a healthy Christian dating relationship is how much you are holding onto a past relationship. Even if you are subconsciously hoping someone in your past comes back into your life, this can wreak havoc on the success of your current relationships.

But how can you know if you are giving up on a relationship that God wants to restore or if you are holding onto something in your past that is preventing you from receiving what God has for you in your future?

Here are 4 signs God is telling you it’s time to fully move on from someone in your past.

1. If This Person Has Fully Moved On From You, This Is Usually a Sign God Is Telling You to Move Forward in Your Life

The difference between biblical faith and blind faith is that biblical faith is based on evidence and blind faith is based on personal desires. For as Jesus said in John 14:11, “Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.” Here we can see that Jesus is providing reasonable evidence for people to have faith in him as the Son of God. God does not call us to just believe what we hope to be true. God does not want our desires to shape our view of the truth. Rather, God wants the truth to shape our desires.

While choosing biblical faith over blind faith is crucial for your salvation, the principles here can also be applied to your relationship hopes. There’s certainly nothing wrong with having a season after a breakup where you hope the relationship is restored. Or perhaps you wanted to date someone but it didn’t work out; there’s nothing wrong with hoping something changes in the future. I know people who are now married who actually broke up while dating but then got back together. I also know couples where one person liked the other person for a period of time before the feelings were mutual, but over time things changed and then they started dating and eventually got married. So this is certainly possible.

However, if a season of hoping goes by and there is still no evidence that the relationship will be restored in the future, the wise thing to do is to move forward with God into a new season of life. If you wish you could be with someone in your past but all the evidence is saying that this person has fully moved on from you, this is usually a sign that God is telling you it’s time to let this go and move on. If you don’t you will always be sabotaging new relationships before they even begin because your heart will still be living in the past.
